Coming Out of Retirement

Published 9 August 2026

When you’ve been out of the adventure touring business for 11 years, you might reasonably assume that chapter of your life has closed.

But when your former road captain and tour guide tell you it’s time to come out of retirement and start marketing Adventure Bike Tours again, you listen.

So, between my day job and everything else life throws at me, I’ve been busy bringing Freespirit Adventure Tours back to life. That means rebuilding the website, reviewing old routes and, most importantly, fleshing out a new collection of motorcycle itineraries.

The aim is not simply to recreate what we offered before. The adventure travel world has moved on, and so have we. The new tours will combine the experience gained from our earlier expeditions with fresh routes, carefully chosen destinations and the local knowledge needed to deliver genuinely memorable journeys.

There is still plenty to do. Routes need to be researched, riding days balanced, accommodation considered and those small but important logistical details worked through. Adventure tours may look wonderfully spontaneous from the saddle, but a great deal of planning goes on behind the scenes.

After 11 years away, it feels both familiar and surprisingly new. The enthusiasm is returning, the ideas are flowing, and Freespirit Adventure Tours is gathering momentum once again.

Watch this space. The road is calling—and it appears retirement may have been temporary after all.
